Taco Cabana used to only have a few vegan options, but now they’ve really stepped up their game, introducing beyond meat to their menu and many other vegan goodies.
Table of Contents
While I still prefer Freebirds or Qdoba to Taco Cabana they now have something more than just chips, guac, beans, and rice for us vegans. Their vegan beyond-meat tacos aren’t even significantly more expensive than the meat-ones, which is a gripe of mine with Freebirds who now charges a bit extra for their beyond-meat option.
Vegan Main Dishes at Taco Cabana:
- Vegan Beyond-Meat Tacos (Specify no Cheese)
- Black Bean Taco (Specify no Cheese)
- Potato Ranchero Taco (no cheese, breakfast only)
- Potato & Bean Taco (no cheese, breakfast only)
- Rice, Beans, (Corn)Tortillas, Lettuce, and Guacamole Veggie Plate
Unfortunately Taco Cabana’s refried-beans are not vegan, and cannot be made vegan even if you remove the cheese topping it normally comes with. Thankfully their corn tortillas are vegan (flour tortillas are not vegan in all locations, most contain buttermilk/non-fat milk), so you can still make yourself a burrito or taco out of the vegan black beans and rice they offer.
You also can build a “salad” however Taco Cabana has no “real” salad dressing but instead only things like Pico De Gallo and lemon juice, and there’s no easily ordered vegan-friendly salad so ordering one can be problematic and even expensive as employees often don’t know how to charge you, or simply say you can’t order a salad with the vegetable-options they offer.
Taco Cabana’s Vegan Side Options:
- Rice Cup
- Black Beans Cup
- Seasoned Potatoes (Breakfast Only)
- Chips & Guacamole
- Corn Tortilla
- “Crunch” Bowl
That’s pretty much all there is that’s vegan at Taco Cabana; there’s a few other things we’ll list below, but that’s all the substantial items that’s vegan at Taco Cabana. It’s not a lot, but at least us vegans don’t have to starve if family goes to Taco Cabana. It just might not be very exciting.
Vegan Toppings & Condiments available at Taco Cabana:
- Salsa Roja
- Salsa Verde
- Salsa Fuego
- Pico De Galo
- Guacamole
- Onions
- Cilantro
- Jalapenos
- Lettuce
- Lemon/Lime Wedges
Sometimes Taco Cabana will give you these for free with your meal, with the exception of Guacamole sometimes, but other times they’ll want a little bit of money to add them to your taco/plate/etc.
Vegan Desserts at Taco Cabana:
- Cut Strawberries
- Strawberry Slushy
- Mango Slushy
- Dr. Pepper Slushy
It’s not a “real dessert,” but it’s the closest thing us vegans have at Taco Cabana. Keep in mind some locations may not have them, or often time they will be relatively tasteless, so tread lightly.
