Culver’s is a fast-food restaurant chain that is super popular in the Midwest. It may offer a casual dining experience, but it doesn’t bring much to the table when it comes to providing vegans with options.
Table of Contents
To put it simply, Culver’s is known for its animal products. Their most popular items are burgers, cheese curds, and frozen custard. That doesn’t sound like a vegan paradise to me. Sometimes we don’t get to choose where we get to eat though. As vegans, it is nice to know ahead of time what we are getting into.
Vegan options at Culver’s may be limited and not at the level of Slutty Vegan’s, but there are still a few things we can have. Let’s take a closer look.
What are Culver’s vegan options?
Vegans may be limited at Culver’s, but thankfully there are still a few menu items fit for plant-based eaters. They mostly consist of sides, but if you order enough of them you should be able to build a satisfying enough meal to hold you over for a while. I know this is far from ideal, but definitely better than nothing.
Culver’s vegan side options include:
- Crinkle-Cut Fries
- Dinner Roll
- Green Beans
- Applesauce
- Apple Slices
- Steamed Broccoli
Culver’s vegan salads include:
- Side Salad (very important –> request no cheese and no croutons)
- Garden Fresco Salad (very important –> request no cheese and no croutons)
With the salads at Culver’s, there are a few things you can add in if you wish. You can add apple slices, craisins, cucumbers, grape tomatoes, red diced onions, and sliced strawberries.
Culver’s vegan dressings include:
- Sesame Ginger Dressing
- Raspberry Vinaigrette Dressing
- French Dressing
- Reduced Calorie French Dressing
Culver’s vegan condiments include:
- Ketchup
- Yellow Mustard
- BBQ Sauce
- Picante Sauce
- Sweet and Sour Dipping Sauce
- Steak Sauce
- Dill Pickles
- Peanut Butter
Culver’s vegan-friendly desserts include:
- Lemon Ice
- Lemon Ice Cooler
- Plain Waffle Cone
- Plain Cake Cone
While you can’t have any frozen custard, there is still a vegan-friendly dessert offered at Culver’s for you. Choose between lemon ice or a lemon ice cooler. The cooler is my personal favorite because it is a slushy made with real lemonade. I just love it, it is simply fantastic.
You can even order a plain cone if you want (Hurray.. I guess..). Unfortunately, there is nothing to replace the custard with at this point, but maybe there will be down the line.
The bottom line when it comes to Vegan Options at Culver’s
Culver’s Vegan options are not great – even KFC Vegan optons are better I think -, but there are some ready-to-order menu items for plant-based eaters. You may be stuck ordering side dishes, but at least you can eat something.
Watch out for the mashed potatoes, vegetarian tomato Florentine soup, and onion rings. Even the veggie burger, which you might assume is vegan, contains whey and cheese. This is one of the most annoying things to me because we know there are plenty of vegan burger patties out there for them to choose between, yet they still have not replaced this with a vegan option.
The mashed potatoes, tomato florentine soup, onion rings, and veggie burger would all be considered vegetarian, but not vegan.
