Wienerschnitzel is an American fast-food hot-dog chain that have a few vegan hot dog on its menu — except that, there aren’t any other great vegan options.
Table of Contents
They do have a few vegan options though — although they don’t really have enough to constitute even a decent vegan meal, yet one worth writing home about, so ultimately we’d recommend avoiding Wienerschnitzel if you’re a vegan.
Important Update — Some locations now have vegan-friendly “veggie dogs” simply make sure they’re cheese-free and they should be vegan-friendly.
Vegan Breakfast Options at Wienerschnitzel:
- (black) Coffee
- Orange Juice
- Tortillas
Their breakfast menu isn’t available at all locations, so at your location they may not have these options — but even if not they’ll generally have them during lunch/dinner time with the exception of Coffee.
Vegan Lunch & Dinner Menu at Wienerschnitzel:
Unfortunately they not only don’t have any vegan substitutes, but they also lack a starchy plant-food to give some “substance” to the meal. As a result their menu is even more narrow than fried chicken places which generally at least have boiled corn or fast-food joints that don’t have a vegan meal such as Wendy’s, which has baked potatoes amongst other sides they offer.
- Regular Bun (no butter)
- Pretzel Bun (no butter)
- All regular drinks/beverages/soda
Unfortunately Wienerschnitzel’s fries, like their Hash Brown Po’Taters, aren’t vegan as they are fried in oil that contains animal-lard. They’re one of the few restaurants that still fry everything in non-vegan oil.
Hopefully one day they, as well as the other restaurants that do the same (such as Texas Roadhouse & McDonald’s amongst others) stop and just use plain vegetable oil like dang near everybody else does.

Update: Vegan hot dog is on fire
The veggie hot dog became so popular that it became available in three different versions.
- Backyard Veggie Dog (exclude the cheese!)
A Veggie Dog in a fresh, steamed bun topped with tomato, chopped onions, pickle spear, relish, sport peppers, yellow mustard and sprinkled with celery salt just like in Chicago! - Barbeque Veggie Dog
A Veggie Dog in a fresh, steamed bun topped with BBQ sauce, a pickle and chopped onions. - Chicago Veggie Dog

So how does Wienerschnitzel Look For A Vegan?
Not good, however not that bad nowadays.
Except for the few veggie hot dog, you can’t even make yourself the standard vegan “meal” at the worst restaurants for a vegan, and that’s a french fry sandwich. All you have is some crappy buns, a tortilla, and some drinks.
If you’re being dragged here eating before you go or after you leave is truthfully your best option as it’s not really possible to whip up even a botched vegan meal here. Basically anywhere else will have more vegan options than Wienerschnitzel — avoid it at all costs if you’re vegan.
