Potbelly at a surface level seems slightly better than most sandwich shops, but not by much. But when you take a closer look, Potbelly is actually pretty dang great compared to other sandwich shops.
Table of Contents
They may not have any vegan meat-substitutes such as tempeh or tofu, but they have numerous vegetables to put on a toasted loaf of bread, pretty good salads, as well as sometimes vegan soup and other goodies.
I’d say Potbelly is pretty good for a Vegan, at least if the Soup of the day is Vegan.
Vegan Sandwich Options at Potbelly:
- Veggie Melt Sandwich (No Cheese)
- Peanut Butter & Jelly Sandwich (PB&J)
- Mediterranean Sandwich (no chicken, no feta)
Make sure you order your sandwich on one of their vegan white bread’s (see below) rather than their multi-grain bread, as it contains honey and thus isn’t vegan.
I’d also highly recommend adding other vegetables to these sandwiches, as there’s plenty of vegan veggies to add, as well as condiments like hummus (see below for all those) that can really take your sandwich up a notch.
Vegan Salad Options at Potbelly:
- Farmhouse Salad (no meat, no cheese, no egg, sub dressing)
- Apple Walnut Salad (no meat, no cheese)
- Powerhouse Salad (no meat, no egg)
- Balsamic Vinaigrette
- Non-Fat Vinaigrette
- Potbelly Vinaigrette
Just like with the sandwich I’d recommend to add some vegetables to the above salads, or build your own if you want a salad composing of specific vegetables.
Vegan Side Dishes at Potbelly:
- Garden Vegetable Soup (No Croutons) – See Below
- Whole Pickle
- Various Chip-Flavors
Sometimes they’ll also have Apple Sauce or another minor side dish, but they’re not available at every location so I didn’t list it above.
As for the chips at Potbelly’s, it varies based on location, so search up the brand of chips or check the back to see which are vegan. They’ll always have at least a couple vegan options when it comes to their chips though, so don’t worry about it till you’re there if you want some chips.
As for the Soups, Potbelly normally only has one or two soups at a time, both of which may not be Vegan, so don’t count on them to be there every time you go.
Vegan Bread Options at Potbelly:
- White Bread
- “Skinny” White Bread
- “Big” White Bread
- All Bagels (varies by location) but the Cheddar-Herb Bagel
Potbelly’s only other bread (Whole-Grain) contains honey so it isn’t vegan, but it is dairy and egg-free.
Vegan Condiments at Potbelly:
- Hummus
- Italian Seasoning
- Mustard, Ketchup, and Other Basic Condiments
- Olive Oil
I’d highly recommend the Hummus & Italian Seasoning if you’re getting a sandwich. They take Potbelly’s Sandwiches to a whole new level.
Salad Add-ins & Vegetables for Potbelly Sandwiches:
- Artichoke Hearts
- Cucumbers
- Diced Apple
- Dried Cranberries
- Garbanzo Beans
- Grape Tomatoes
- Grapes
- Hot Peppers
- Lettuce
- Mushrooms
- Onion
- Pickle
- Red Onions
- Roasted Red Peppers
- Tomato
It should be free to add any of the above to your sandwich. As for salads it depends on the specific Potbelly, not all of them will let you have unlimited toppings for free in your Salad.
