Selsun Blue is the second most popular dandruff shampoo in North America, second only to Head & Shoulders shampoo. Much like Head & Shoulders, Selsun Blue is a more “mild” less potent, albeit typically adequate Dandruff-preventing shampoo.

While Head and Shoulder’s tests on animals, and thus their products are non-vegan, according to Selsun Blue’s Parent Company (Chattem Inc) they do not test on animals other than when mandated by the FDA or EPA, which means the only products they’d be testing is their mosquito-repelling products, and those would only be tested on mosquitoes.
I’d consider their products to be vegan as a result, as most were never tested by them on any animals, and the few they did were on the most forgivable of victims in my view, and only because of mandates. I believe they’ve also stopped and no longer produce such mosquito-repelling shampoos anyhow.
The Following Selsun Blue Products are Vegan:
- Max Strength Medicated
- Max Strength Moisturizing
- Max Strength 2-in-1
- Daily Care Itchy Dry Scalp
- Naturals Itchy Dry Scalp
Sometimes Selson Blue Changes the product names from the above, but currently at least all of their products are vegan-friendly, in terms of liquid shampoos/conditioners. If you used to use a specific type of Selson blue just smell them to see which you used in the past, as they don’t actually significantly change the ingredients used or scent when they change the names. The formulas stay largely the same.
